How to Clean Door Handles and Knobs during covid?
Doors are one of the daily objects that sometimes we even don’t realize their existence. We instinctively open and close them in our homes, schools, and every facility. In public places, thousands of people touch doorknobs and handle them without paying much attention. So doorknobs and handles are one of the most contaminated areas in homes and public places.
These frequent-contact surfaces cause easy transmission of most of the viruses such as coronavirus. So, under the COVID-19 pandemic circumstances, hygiene of the doorknobs and handles requires utmost importance.
So how can we clean doorknobs? What are the useful tips for cleaning?
Cleaning Door Knobs and Handles
Generally, we touch doorknobs before we could wash our hands, especially in public places, keeping a disinfectant before the door could be a good idea.
To clean contaminated areas on doors, first, use hot water and clean wipes. Then use a fast-acting disinfectant and ensure that the surface remains wet for the proper time so germs are killed. Do not forget to dry the area with a clean wipe, so no stain remains on the knob.
If you do not want to use disinfectants, you can use homemade vinegar in order to disinfect the contaminated area. Vinegar is a decent anti-microbial and anti-bacterial, which makes it a good cleaning material on all surfaces. It is also a good anti-lime material so if your household water is limy, you can use vinegar in cleaning the doorknobs in order to prevent calcification. Pour some vinegar in a mildly moist cloth, clean the targeted area, wipe again with a moist cloth, and finally wipe it with a dry cloth. If you are using a microfiber cloth, be careful about pilling, if so, put some glycerine in the cleaning water.
If there is dirt, grease, or rust in the doorknobs or handles, first you have to target those stains with pertinent chemicals first. You can also use bleach in order to target grease or dirt. In order to take the rust out, you can rub the area with some carbonate and detergent.
Another option is to use some lemon with salt. Put some salt on the rust, and pour some lemon juice. You can also directly apply lemon to the salt. Wait about five minutes and rub the area gently with a wire sponge. Be careful not to scratch the surface.
Doorknobs and handles are generally made of a hard and quality metallic material, so using chemicals can degrade, corrode, and wear out the handles. Using natural products will provide long term utilization of the products.
